| Michael Owen Will Sign For Manchester United Pending A Medical - Report The crocked striker's career could be back on track if a shock move to Old Trafford goes through...Michael Owen has been heavily linked with a shock move to Manchester United according to The Guardian. It is said that the injury prone striker has had his services called upon to provide goals for the Red Devils in the wake of the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez - all pending a medical at Old Trafford. Reports say that Owen is currently holding talks with the Premier League champions as both parties move to complete one of the most unexpected transfers in English football history. The 29-year-old's glittering career looked to be all but over as previous transfer speculation had linked him to teams in the lower half of the league, but the former England international's luck seems to have changed. The transfer is likely to spark much controversy amongst United fans, however, a footballing figurehead such as Sir Alex Ferguson is sure to be unfazed as he looks to rebuild his attacking force. news from goal.com_________________ |

| OFFICIAL: Michael Owen Joins Manchester United The striker has joined the Red Devils in what is this summer's shock move in the transfer market...Michael Owen has signed for Manchester United, completing a move that even a couple of days ago would have been laughed at as being too far-fetched for serious consideration. He has signed a two-year contract. The Red Devils have confirmed the striker's capture on their official website, and Owen is clearly delighted to have completed such sensational move, saying, "I had just begun to talk to other clubs when out of the blue Sir Alex phoned me on Wednesday afternoon, invited me to have breakfast with him the next morning during which he told me that he wanted to sign me. I agreed without a moment's thought. "This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands. "I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here. I missed pre-season last year and am pleased that I will be starting at Carrington from day one. "I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances." United manager Alex Ferguson was also pleased to have reinforced his forward line, depleted by the recent departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and the imminent exit of Carlos Tevez, stating, "Michael is a world class forward with a proven goalscoring record at the highest level and that has never been in question. "Coming to Manchester United with the expectations that we have is something that Michael will relish." Owen will now link up with friends and former England colleagues Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, as he looks to put himself back in the frame for Fabio Capello's England squad with the World Cup only a year away. news from goal.com_________________ |

| Wayne Rooney Inspires United To Narrow VictoryThe Red Devils had the England striker to thank for sealing an edgy victory over the Blues...Manchester United (W. Rooney 34') 1-0 Birmingham CityA first-half goal from Wayne Rooney proved to be enough for Manchester United to commence their Premier League campaign with victory over Birmingham City this afternoon. The striker netted from close range just after the half-hour mark after his header had rebounded off of the post, and despite having a flurry of chances had to settle for a single goal win over the newly-promoted away side. _________________
